Tania Johnson
Psychologist & PLay Therapist
Registered Psychologist & Registered Play Therapist
Tania helps children, teens and parents understand and strengthen the relationships that shape how we see ourselves and the world.
How Tania can help
Tania specializes in play therapy and parent coaching, and works with clients across the lifespan. She supports families facing behaviour, emotional or relationship challenges, and parents who want practical ways to connect with and guide their kids. She also works with teens and adults exploring how early relationships affect them today.
Tania's approach
Tania works mainly from an attachment-based perspective: exploring how our earliest relationships shape how we understand ourselves, other people and the world. Her work is depth-focused, but always paired with concrete healing strategies. Relationship, consistency and honouring resilience are central to everything she does.
Background & Training
Tania completed her undergraduate studies in South Africa, followed by a one-year, full-time internship at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Chicago, where she supported oncology patients and families in the Stem Cell Unit. She earned her Master of Counselling from City University of Seattle in 2012. During and after her degree, Tania and her husband lived with and cared for a sibling group of four, an experience that deeply shaped her clinical work.
Tania is Co-founder of the Institute of Child Psychology, co-hosts The Childpsych Podcast, presents workshops on children's mental health nationally and internationally, and supervises master's students and provisional psychologists.
